Another cop dies from Covid-19
Another police personnel who was infected with Covid-19 died in Dhaka today.
Al Mamunur Rashid, a Nayek of Transport Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), was staying in home isolation after some of his colleagues were tested covid-19 positive, police said.
His sample was collected earlier and the result came back on Wednesday night, confirming he was Covid-19 positive.
His condition deteriorated in the morning and he was rushed to Central Police Hospital around 11:30am where he was declared "brought dead", said Zobayedur Rahman, deputy commissioner (Transport Division) of DMP.
With Mamun, 11 police personnel have died so far after being infected with Covid-19.
Originally from Lakshmipur, Mamun left behind his wife and two daughters.
Earlier, constables Naimul Haque, Jalal Uddin Khoka, Mokhlesur Rahman, Asheq Mahmud and Jasim Uddin; Assistant Sub-inspectors (ASI) Raghunath Roy and Abdul Khaleq; Sub-inspectors (SI) Sultanul Arefin, Mujibur Rahman Talukder and Nazir Uddin died from coronavirus infection.
Meanwhile, 20 members of Diplomatic Security Division of DMP, who recently recovered from Covid-19, joined office today. Ashraful Islam, deputy commissioner of the division, welcomed them with flowers.
They were being treated from April 21 to May 2 at Central Police Hospital and maintained a 14-day isolation after their recovery and release from hospital.
