Trawlers plying on Padma river route despite restrictions

Trawlers were seen plying on Shimulia-Banglabazar route disobeying movement restrictions imposed by the government, reports our Munshiganj correspondent.

At 3pm today, a trawler carrying around 30 passengers came to Shimulia ghat from Banglabazar ghat. Another trawler was also seen leaving Shimulia ghat with passengers. No law enforcers were seen in the ghat area at the time.

Some passengers said since ferries were unavailable, they used trawlers after waiting for a long time. Some also said they didn't know about the restrictions.

Mawa Naval Police Officer-in-Charge Shirajul Kabir said, the patrol activities in Padma were disrupted due to bad weather since morning.

Trawlers are not supposed to run, said the OC, adding that they are looking into the matter.
