Sub-inspector dies with Covid-19 infection at Central Police Hospital
Another police personnel, who was infected with Covid-19, died at Central Police Hospital this morning.
Mujibur Rahman Talukder (56), a sub-inspector of Special Branch (City) of police, was admitted to Impulse Hospital on May 11 after he tested Covid-19 positive.
As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit of Central Police Hospital where he breathed his last at 8:51am, said Sohel Rana, assistant inspector general (Media) of Police Headquarters.
With Mujibur, nine police personnel have died after being infected with Covid-19 while discharging their duties.
Mujibur joined the police force on January 1, 1983. Hailing from Sirajganj district, he left behind his wife, two sons and a daughter. The body was sent to Bogura where his family lives.
Earlier, constables Naimul Haque, Jalal Uddin Khoka, Asheq Mahmud and Jasim Uddin; Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) Raghunath Roy; ASI Abdul Khaleq; Sub-inspector (SI) Sultanul Arefin; and SI Nazir Uddin died after being detected with the virus.
As the Central Police Hospital is struggling to deal with the huge number of patients, police authorities have booked impulse Hospital to treat its members. Till yesterday, the number of total infected police personnel stood at 2,557 -- of whom 1,095 are from Dhaka Metropolitan Police only, according to a tally of Police Headquarters.
There are around two lakhs members of the force for around 17 crore population in the country. The total number of Covid-19 infected across the country is 22,268 till yesterday, meaning around 11 percent of the infected are police personnel.
