Relief distributed in remote Bandarban village after Star report
The local administration has distributed government relief to a remote village in Bandarban's Lama upazila after The Daily Star ran a report on food crisis among people in the village.
The Daily Star ran the report titled "Food crisis grips communities in remote Bandarban" on April 21.
Nur-E-Jannat, upazila nirbahi officer of Lama upazila, said they sent relief for 15 families in Langkom Mro Para yesterday evening, reports our Bandarban correspondent.
"We sent each family 10 kg rice after seeing the news," said UNO Nur-E- Jannat.
The UNO also thanked this newspaper for its report.
"We thank The Daily Star for providing us information about the most vulnerable people in this pandemic," she said.
"We hope The Daily Star will continue to stand beside us by picking up the real story of the people from the remote areas who are in most need," she added.
Langkom Mro, karbari (chief) of the Para, confirmed that they received the relief and also thanked this newspaper.
Faridul Alom, chairman of Sarai union parishad under Lama upazila, said, "Around 3,000 families live in my union while I got relief for 1,500 families".
"After the story of Langkom Mro Para was published I collected their information and distributed food among the residents," he added.
