‘More than 50’ Rab members infected with Covid-19 in Narayanganj

Around 50 current and civilian members of Rapid Action Battalion-11 have tested positive for coronavirus in Narayanganj, one of the hotspots for the virus in the country.

Of them, five are civilian members attached with the elite force.

"At present, more than 50 Rab members and five civilians from RAB-11 are Covid-19 positive, and are being treated in the designated hospitals and unit isolation facilities respectively," said Lt Col Imran Ullah Sarker, the commanding officer of Rab-11.

Lt Col Imran also said an isolation centre has been set up on the top floor of the battalion's Siddhirganj, Narayanganj headquarters.

The coronavirus isolation facility at Siddhirganj has a capacity of 70 and 30 spots are currently occupied by Rab members who are mostly asymptomatic, he confirmed.

Besides, the Crime Prevention Special Company also established a 20-bedded isolation facility inside their Narayanganj camp, the commanding offer added.
