Shahiduzzaman Sarker, lawmaker of Naogaon-2 constituency, has said that he tested positive for Covid-19.

Shahiduzzaman, also a former whip of the parliament, confirmed the status to The Daily Star and consented to disclosing his details.

He is currently at his residence at MP Hostel in the city's Manik Mia Avenue.

"I was informed from IEDCR [Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research] that I tested positive [for coronavirus]. But I am yet to get a copy of the result," he told The Daily Star last evening.

"I went to my village home recently and probably got infected there," the 64-year-old MP said.

He added that he had been suffering from fever for the last three days.

His samples were collected on Thursday and were tested at the IEDCR, the lawmaker said.

Whip of parliament Atiqur Rahman told our correspondent that Sarker returned to Dhaka from Naogaon two days ago with fever.
