India’s Covid-19 cases cross 1 crore
India's total tally for Covid-19 infection has crossed the grim milestone of one crore even as over 95.5 lakh patients have recovered since the first case was reported on January 30, reports our New Delhi correspondent quoting the country's health ministry data.
India is the second country after the United States to have more than one crore Covid-19 patients.
In contrast to Europe, the pandemic seems to be on a steady declining curve in India in the last three months.
In the last 24 hours, 25,152 new infections were reported across the country taking the total tally to 1,00,04,599, according to the latest data.
The death toll from the virus has reached 1,45,136 while the number of active cases stood at 3,08,751 while 95,50,712 people have made recoveries, according to the updated data released this morning.
The health ministry said India has seen "a steep rise" in recoveries -- from 50,000 in May to over 95 lakh in December, which means the recoveries are more than 30 times the active cases.
It said the government's "calibrated strategies through a 'whole of government' approach have sharply focussed on high recovery rate and low fatality rate on a sustained basis."
