Ctg’s Hathazari to be locked down from tomorrow
Local administration has announced that Chattogram's Hathazari upazila will be locked down from tomorrow morning in a bid to contain the spread of coronavirus.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the upazila administration this evening, reports our Chattogram correspondent.
"With the permission of the Chattogram deputy commissioner, we have decided to impose a lockdown from 6:00am on Monday," Hathazari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ruhul Amin told The Daily Star.
The UNO said they came to know people were returning to Hathazari from their workplaces deeming the upazila to be safer, which in turn has increased the risk of the virus spreading in the upazila.
Many people were also trying to use the upazila as a transit point to go to Rangamati and Khagrachhari districts, the UNO said.
"All movements of people and vehicles will be restricted during the lockdown, except emergency services, which included utilities, medical services, transportation of food, industrial goods and agricultural products," he added.
There has been no confirmed Covid-19 case in Hathazari upazila so far.
