Coronavirus outbreak: 214 Canadians leave for Toronto from Dhaka
A total of 214 Canadian nationals stranded in Bangladesh following the Covid-19 outbreak left Dhaka tonight for Toronto by a special chartered flight.
The special flight of Qatar Airlines left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 9:00pm, an official of the Aviation Security (AVSEC), HSIA, said.
The Canadian High Commission, with the help of the Bangladesh government, chartered the special flight for those citizens, mostly expatriate Bangladeshis residing in Canada, who opted to go back home amid the pandemic.
Another special flight carrying Canadian citizens is also scheduled to leave Dhaka on April 16, said an official of AVSEC.
Earlier, citizens of the USA, Japan, Malaysia, Bhutan and different European countries also left Dhaka by chartered flights in the last 15 days, sources at HSIA said.
Bangladesh extended suspension of air communication to and from Dhaka until April 30.
