Coronavirus fallout: Modele Group comes forward for those in need

Modele Group, a leading garment manufacturer and exporter in Bangladesh, has announced an integrated initiative package to prevent the spread of coronavirus and to ensure public security, food and health safety, especially for the people of Narayanganj.

"Narayanganj has been marked as a hotspot of Covid-19 spread. With the highest mercy of almighty Allah, lives of people can be saved by creating a regional safety net along with the initiatives taken by the government led by honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Collective efforts of the affluent people and organisations with public awareness can contain this disaster," said Masuduzzaman, founder and managing director of Modele Group.

Modele Group declared a fund of around Tk 5 crore to carry out four different tiers of programmes aimed at raising public awareness and hygiene, providing food support, medical protection, and financial aid. 

Under the public awareness and hygiene programme, the group has allocated Tk 40 lakh to conduct different initiatives for raising awareness on preventing spread of Covid-19, and to sterilise the city and roads by their own volunteers with help from local people. 

Under the food support programme, the group has allocated Tk 1.5 crore to provide food support to estimated 15,000 vulnerable families including factory workers. The food basket includes rice, lentils, grams, potatoes, oil, onions, and soap.

In order to ensure the health safety and protection to the front liner medical team in the district, the group has stepped up with an allocation of Tk 1.5 crore to collect authentic medical protection equipment from overseas, including hand gloves, PPE, goggles, shields, masks, thermometers, etc which will be distributed to them through the proper authority to ensure maximum coverage.

The group also allocated Tk 1.58 crore to provide cash assistances to the different government organisations and elected authorities in their efforts to tackle the outbreak. Narayanganj City Corporation, lawmakers, district commissioners, police, local commissioners, media, and middle-income families are in the list of this financial assistance programme. 

Besides, the Modele Group founder has committed to extend more support to any of the noble initiatives taken by authorities or stakeholders in Narayanganj city.
