A police constable of Chattogram Metropolitam Police Headquarters has tested positive for coronavirus after his samples were tested at the Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (BITID).

BITID yesterday tested samples from 113 persons and found four of them to be Covid-19 positive, including the police constable, said Chattogram Civil Surgeon Sheikh Fazle Rabbi.

The three other positive cases include two people from Chattogram and one from Feni, he said.

"The constable was posted at the CMP Headquarter building. A few days ago he fell ill with low blood pressure and was rushed to Dampara Police Line Hospital where doctors suggested that he be tested for Covid-19," said Amir Zafar, deputy commissioner at CMP HQ.

"Three colleagues of the constable, and six of his dormitory roommates have been placed under quarantine," DC Amir Zafar said, adding that the constable has been shifted to Chattogram General Hospital's isolation ward yesterday evening.

However, the barracks will not be locked down as police acted immediately in this regard, he added.

So far, around 55 police officials of CMP have been tested for coronavirus and 10 were found to be infected with the disease, including the constable yesterday.

Meanwhile, Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) yesterday tested 99 samples and found nine people positive for Covid-19. Among them, six are from Laxmipur and three from Noakhali.
