50-bed health complex in Shariatpur locked down

A 50-bed health complex in Goshairhat upazila of Shariatpur has been put under lockdown after the domestic help of a nurse there tested positive for coronavirus.

"We announced Goshairhat Upazila Health Complex locked down on Monday [yesterday] until further instruction after a domestic help of a nurse of the hospital tested positive for coronavirus," Md Alomgir Hossain, upazila nirbahi officer of Goshairhat, told The Daily Star.

"The test report of the 26-year-old woman…from icddr,b came positive for Covid-19," Dr Md Abdur Rashid, medical officer (disease control) of Shariatpur Civil Surgeon's Office, told The Daily Star.

"The woman is a domestic help employed in the house of a senior nurse of Goshairhat Upazila Health Complex. Besides, she also used to work at the houses of some other nurses of the hospital," Dr Rashid said.

"The woman has been suffering from fever for some days. So her samples were collected for coronavirus test on May 1. She is now being treated in isolation at her home while her family members are also placed in home quarantine," he also said.

"Some 123 people including 10 doctors, 13 nurses, 33 hospital staffers of the hospital have been place in home quarantine while 13 patients at the hospital will be observed in isolation in connection with the case. The samples of these people will be collected for coronavirus test," the official added.

With this, so far 39 people have been diagnosed with Covid-19 in Shariatpur, including two deaths, till yesterday.
