5 test Covid-19 positive in Cox’s Bazar’s Maheshkhali island
Five people today tested positive for coronavirus in Maheshkhali upazila, an island in Cox's Bazar.
The infected people aged between 30 and 40 are residents of Kalarmarchhara and Hoanok unions in the upazila, our local correspondent reports quoting Maheshkhali Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Md Mahfuzul Haque.
They returned from Dhaka, Narayanganj and Cumilla a week ago, said Dr Mahmudul.
The five suffering from fever and cough visited Maheshkhali Upazila Health Complex where the health service providers collected their samples yesterday, the official said.
Later, the samples were sent to a lab established at Cox's Bazar Government Medical College for Covid-19 test, he added.
The medical authorities sent those test documents to Dhaka's Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control And Research (IEDCR) this morning and the IEDCR later confirmed those cases as Covid-19 positive.
Cox's Bazar recorded a total of 14 cases of coronavirus so far. Of them eight, including these five, are from Maheshkhali.
