Five more staffers of Sylhet Shahid Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital have tested positive for coronavirus after a storekeeper of the hospital was found Covid-19 positive on April 22.

The new cases include three nurses, one medical technologist and one office assistant, Dr Shushanta Kumar Mahapatra, resident medical officer at the hospital, told The Daily Star last night.

After the store keeper tested Covid-19 positive on the night of April 22, samples of all the staffers of the hospital as well as family members of the infected store keeper were sent to the PCR lab at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for tests, he said.

The reports came back positive for Covid-19 for the five hospital staffers on Monday, the RMO also said, adding that the five infected persons are asymptomatic and are under observation in home isolation.

The infected storekeeper, who is also in home isolation, is in stable condition while the person's family members have all tested negative, Dr Shushanta added.

Sylhet Shahid Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital is one of the two dedicated hospitals for treatment of Covid-19 patients in Sylhet.
