Star Online Report

Five people died of coronavirus infections and six hundred and eighty-eight tested positive in the last 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said today.

With this, the number of total infections across Bangladesh now stands at 10,143 -- surpassing the grim landmark of ten thousand.

The death toll currently stands at 182, said Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general (administration) of DGHS, during a briefing.

Meanwhile, 147 more patients recovered from the infection, taking the total recovery number to 1,210.

According to Dr Nasima, the clinical management committee has set new guidelines on determining recovered patients -- under the new guidelines, the figure will also take into account patients who have recovered at home.

A total of 6,260 samples were tested in 33 labs across the country since yesterday, which is 16.61 percent more than the previous day, Dr Nasima added.

The five deceased were all males, with three hailing from Dhaka and one each from Mymensingh and Sylhet.

Three of them were above sixty years old, one was between 50-60 years old, and the other was within 31-40 years old, the DGHS official said.

In the last 24 hours, 90 people were put under isolation across the country.
