5, including 2 of a family, test Covid-19 positive in Jamalpur

Five people, including two of a family, have tested positive for Coronavirus in Jamalpur, bringing the total number of cases in the district to 21.

The two family members are a 35-year-old man and his 55-year-old mother. They are residents of Madarganj upazila, our Jamalpur correspondent reports.

Among the three others, two are ward boys of Jamalpur General Hospital aged around 41 and 40 respectively. Both are residents of Sadar upazila.

The other is a garment worker (25) and a resident of Melandah upazila.

The 35-year-old man and his mother began showing Covid-19 symptoms after they had come in contact with his 28-year-old wife who is an employee at Madarganj Upazila Health Complex, said Civil Surgeon of Jamalpur Abu Sayeed Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman.

The man's wife tested positive for the virus on April 14, the civil surgeon said.

The garment worker began showing symptoms after he returned home from his workplace in Narayanganj recently, he added.

Samples of all were sent to the microbiology department of Mymensingh Medical College (MMC) and they returned positive today, said the civil surgeon.

The patients have been shifted to the isolation centre set up at a newly built structure at the Sheikh Hasina Medical College in Jamalpur town.
