5 doctors, 3 policemen, 4 magistrates test Covid-19 positive in Jamalpur, Habiganj
A total 28 people were found to have tested positive for Covid-19 in Jamalpur and Habiganj districts today.
In Jamalpur, eight people, including four doctors, have tested positive for Covid-19, raising the number of coronavirus cases in the district to 46.
The doctors, who are found to be infected infected with the virus, include a 30-year-old female medical officer at Islampur upazila health complex who is 7-months preganant, a 27-year-old medical officer at Jamalpur General Hospital, and two doctors aged 48-years and 43-years at Sheikh Hasina Medical College in the district.
The four other Covid-19 patients are: a 32-year-old staff nurse at Jamalpur General Hospital, and three police personnel aged 31, 37 and 28 years, Abu Sayeed Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman, civil surgeon of Jamalpur, told The Daily Star.
Samples collected from them all were sent to the PCR lab at Mymensingh Medical College after they began exhibiting Covid-19 symptoms, said the civil surgeon, adding that the reports arrived today.
The four doctors will remain in home isolation, while the three policemen will be shifted to an isolation centre set up at Police Officers' Mess and the staff nurse to the isolation unit at Sheikh Hasina Medical College in Jamalpur town, said sources at the local health department.
In Habiganj, a total of 20 people, including four magistrates and a doctor, tested positive for coronavirus in Habiganj district today.
Among the 20, there is an additional district magistrate, three executive magistrates and a doctor, a nurse and nine health workers of HabiganjSadar Hospital, Habiganj Deputy Commissioner Kamrul Islam, told our Moulvibazar correspondent this evening.
A total of 48 samples were sent to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research in Dhaka on Tuesday for tests and of those 20 were found to be positive for coronavirus, the DC said.
The two executive magistrates will be kept in an isolation centre at Habiganj Circuit House, while the rest will self-isolateat home, the DC said.
The authority of the Habiganj Sadar Hospital will provide health service on a limited scale for the next three days following the infections, the government official said.
Habiganj Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Mukhlesur Rahman Uzzal said all infected are residents of different parts of Habiganj town and the Sadar upazila.
