1.5 lakh people registered online for Covid-19 vaccines: health minister

Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said some 1.5 lakh people have registered online to take Covid-19 vaccine doses till this noon.

He also said that the government has decided to inoculate 35 lakh people instead of 60 lakh in the first month of vaccination apparently due to a lukewarm response to online registration.

"It is not important when and how many [people] will be vaccinated. As we will get vaccine throughout the year, we will continue vaccinating people," the minister said.

The minister was talking to journalists following an event at National Cancer Institute in Dhaka today.

They are all set to start countrywide vaccination campaign from Sunday, he added.
