Contempt of Court: Eunus Ali Akond fined, barred from practicing law for 3 months
The Supreme Court today barred Md Eunus Ali Akond from practicing law -- before both its Appellate and High Court divisions -- for three months over contempt of court by posting three derogatory comments about the judiciary on his Facebook.
The apex court also fined him Tk 25,000 and directed that he would have to serve 15 days of imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.
A seven-member bench of the Appellate Division of the SC headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain delivered the verdict after hearing a contempt of court rule issued against Eunus Ali.
During the hearing, Eunus Ali appeared before the SC and apologised for his Facebook comments.

On September 27, the Appellate Division issued the contempt of court rule asking Eunus Ali to show causes why he should not be punished for posting the derogatory comments on his Facebook.
The SC also suspended the enrolment of Eunus Ali Akond as a lawyer for next two weeks.
