Without qualified teachers, the education system of our country is not capable of producing competent students who are fit for the handling of the 21st century challenges. The qualified graduates, who have completed their university education with excellence, do not have any motivation to become a teacher in our country. The salary of the teachers, especially of elementary and high schools in Bangladesh is very poor. Most of the teachers are involved in private tutoring or coaching business, and they use the classroom as a tool to recruit students for their coaching centres. The government should provide decent compensation packages to our teachers so that they are able to live an honourable life.
