Work out permanent solution
Jatiya Sangsad Speaker and Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Chairman Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Tuesday called upon world leaders and donor agencies to take effective steps immediately for a permanent solution to the issue of the Rohingyas.
Bangladesh has given shelter to the Rohingyas on humanitarian grounds only as they took refuge in Bangladesh to flee persecution in Myanmar.
Speaker Shirin made the call while addressing a daylong parliamentary network workshop organised by the World Bank and International Monetary Fund at the headquarters of the IMF at Washington, DC, said a press release.
In her speech, Shirin said, "Bangladesh has set a unique example before the global community with the country's economic development under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina."
But the country needs all out cooperation of the international community in its humanitarian assistance and repatriation efforts for the huge population of the forcibly displaced Myanmar citizens, she said.
She urged the developed countries to come forward and save the high-risk countries from natural disasters caused by climate change.
