Youth beaten to death in Ctg

A twenty-five-year old youth was beaten to death in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong district yesterday, allegedly for being a thief.

The deceased, Mohammed Mashrafi, son of Omar Ali Sikder of Lalmohon of Bhola, used to work as a mason in Sitakunda and lived in Kumira GPH gate area.

Mashrafi was taken to Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex with injuries in his belly, face and throat and was declared "brought dead" by the doctors.

Md Hossain Ali, 52, and his son Shahidul, 24, who brought Mashrafi to the hospital, said he tried to enter their house around 1:15am and was beaten by the mob after they had caught him.

Police arrested the duo for murdering the youth, said Monirul Islam, sub-inspector of Sitakunda Police station.

Md Bachchu Mia, a mason supervisor under whom Mashrafi worked said, "Mashrafi was a gentle man and had worked till 5:00pm on Tuesday. We heard that Mashrafi had a relation with Hossain's daughter." Quoting locals, Bachchu alleged that Mashrafi was beaten to death when he went to visit Hossain's daughters that night.

Investigation and process of filing a case was underway, said police.
