Workshop on strategic plan for environment held
Proper and strong management of environment and natural resources is essential to ensure sustainable development of the ecosystem, speakers said in a workshop yesterday.
The Ministry of Environment and Forests, and Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) of the United Nation and USAID jointly organised the workshop on "Country Investment Plan for Bangladesh Environment, Forestry and Climate Change" in a hotel in the port city.
It was the 7th consultation workshop in divisional level.
Shah Mohammad Mahboob, national consultant of FAO, said Country Investment Plan (CIP) is the single strategic plan for the Environment, Forestry and Climate Change (EFCC) sector for the next five years which will help the country to define its own priorities better and strategically identify its investment needs.
The goals of CIP are sustainable development and management of natural resources, environmental pollution prevention and ecosystem restoration, adaptation, mitigation resilience to climate change and environmental stewardship, he added.
Dr Kamal Uddin Ahmed, secretary of environment and foreign ministry, Mike Robson, FAO representative in Bangladesh, and Azharul H Majumder, environment and climate change specialist, USAID, among others, addressed the workshop.
