Workers' Party wants Muhith's resignation
The Workers' Party of Bangladesh, a key component of Awami League-led alliance, yesterday demanded that Finance Minister AMA Muhith resigns taking responsibility of the recent cyber heist netting around $101 million of Bangladesh Bank.
"In accordance with the constitution, the finance minister is responsible for maintaining and ensuring the security of state-run financial institutions," the party's general secretary, Fazley Hossain Badsha, told a rally before the capital's Jatiya Press Club. "We want the culprits to be identified. But that does not mean the finance minister will protect his personal interests by averting his responsibilities," he said.
