Woman arrested over N'ganj 5-murder
Police yesterday arrested Nazma Begum, an accused in the Narayanganj five-murder case, in Shariatpur district.
Two people have been arrested in the case -- the second arrestee being Mahfuz, a nephew of Shafiqul Islam, husband of the victim Taslima Begum.
Taslima, 35, her son Shanto, 10, her daughter Sumaiya, 5, brother Morshedul, 22, and sister-in-law Lamia, 25, were found killed in their house in Narayanganj city's Baburail area on Saturday.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) of Narayanganj Mohibul Islam Khan said Shafiqul filed a case with Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station and accused Nazma.
He alleged that some people of Kalabagan in Dhaka including Nazma and one Shahjahan had lent around Tk 12 lakh to his wife Taslima, which was to be repaid monthly at an interest.
The lenders would frequently visit his house and threaten his wife, he said, adding that Nazma even threatened that if the dues were not paid Shafiqul's family including his children would be killed.
The autopsy report said the victims were hit on the heads and strangled.
The case statement said another arrestee, Mahfuz, used to sexually harass his younger brother's wife.
The case has been shifted to the district Detective Branch (DB) of police.
Shafiqul's nephew Mahfuz has been remanded for seven days.
DB Inspector Md Abul Khair told The Daily Star that the court remanded Nazma for five days.
The inspector said in primary investigation, Nazma said that she lent Tk 1.65 lakh to Taslima, but Taslima had not repaid it in one year and she had been hiding.
Nazma admitted that she had threatened to kill her to get the amount back but said she did not kill Taslima, the police official told The Daily Star.
