Why management committees can't be hiring authorities

High Court asks government

The High Court yesterday questioned the legality of the government's decision to recruit teachers for private schools and colleges through a single central committee in place of their respective managing committees and governing bodies.

The court issued the rule asking the government to explain in two weeks why the decision should not be declared illegal.

The HC came up with the rule after hearing a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer ABM Nurul Islam.

Nurul told The Daily Star that the education ministry on October 21 issued a circular saying that teachers for private schools and colleges would be appointed through a 13-member committee led by its secretary.
