Water level goes down, people begin returning home
The water level in three upazilas of Lalmonirhat that were hit by flash flood has started going down yesterday, bringing relief to the locals.
Onrush of water upstream across the border triggered a flash flood in low-lying villages of Teesta River basin on Wednesday night, leaving around 30,000 people marooned.
According to officials of Water Development Board, water level of the Teesta has reduced by 52.40cm from the danger level.
On Wednesday night, the water was flowing 45cm above the danger level in the Teesta.
Affected people have started going back home but they still face scarcity of food and drinking water.
