Verdict date deferred
A Chittagong court yesterday deferred the date to pronounce the verdict in Himel murder case.
"Chittagong Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 Judge Selim Miya passed the order," said public prosecutor MA Naser, adding, the date, later, will be conveyed by the court as the case was not prepared for announcing the verdict.
The accused of the case are Mahmudul Islam, Sunil Das, Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury, Md Hossain alias Sagar, Md Nazrul Islam alias Lal Miyan and Md Selim. Of the accused, Sagar and Selim are on the run, said court sources.
According to the prosecution, four days before publishing of his SSC result, Chittagong Government High school's student Himel Das Supam went missing.
Naser said accused Mahmudul Islam, an acquaintance of Himel, invited him and his friends to go on a trip to Bandarban on May 8, 2011. After going to Bandarban, Himel was abducted.
On May 11, Himel's mother Papiya Sen lodged a general diary accusing four to five persons as she could not reach her son over the phone. Police, later, recovered his decomposed body from Naga Jhiri, near Meghla Porjathan Kendra in Bandarban.
Accused Mahmudul and his brother Nazrul Islam in their confessional statements said they killed Himel as per Himel's uncle Sunil's plan to grab the family property, said PP Naser.
Police submitted the charge sheet on September 30, 2011 accusing six persons while the charge was framed on August 27, 2012, said court sources.
