US surveillance flights may help locate boat people

The US hopes that information from maritime surveillance flights will provide a better understanding of the position of boat people at sea.

A US Navy aircraft has began conducting maritime surveillance flights to locate and mark the positions of the boats possibly carrying migrants on the Asian sea, said Jeff Rathke, director of the US State Department, at the daily press briefing at Washington yesterday.
