Motorcyclist physically assaults traffic sergeant in Rajshahi
A motorcyclist physically assaulted a traffic sergeant leaving him with fractured bones at Horse Square checkpoint in Rajshahi city today.
The sergeant, Sree Bipul Kishore Bhattachariya, was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital with fracture on his left elbow, right hand and left collarbone among other injuries, said Golam Ruhul Kuddus, additional deputy commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police.
The incident took place at 12:00pm when the traffic sergeant stopped the motorcyclist as he was driving a TVS Apache RTR 160 along the footpath, the RMP's spokesperson said.
The motorcyclist began quarrelling with the sergeant when he asked the motorcyclist why he was driving on the footpath and asked to see documents.
At one stage, he picked up firewood from a nearby shop and began beating up the sergeant.
The motorcyclist then fled as other policemen and locals rushed to the scene, said the police official.
Police learnt that the motorcycle belongs to one Belal Hossain, son of Shamsul Islam of Laxmipur Bhatapara area of the city.
The injured sergeant identified Belal Hossain as one of his attackers by seeing his photograph submitted with Bangladesh Road Transport Authority, the police official said.
Police have seized Belal's motorcycle and are trying to arrest the culprit, he added.
RMP Commissioner Abu Kalam Siddique visited the injured sergeant at the hospital.
