Two Ctg cops charged for aiding criminal

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday pressed charges against two former Sub-Inspectors (SI) of Detective Branch (DB) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police in connection with attempting to save two accused in an arms case by not submitting the arms before the court as an evidence.

Raisuddin Ahmed, deputy assistant director (DAD) of ACC Chittagong divisional office submitted the charge sheet before the court of Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate, said ACC sources.

The accused are former SIs of DB Md Delwar Hossain and ABM Kamal Pasha. According to the ACC sources, on November 25,  1996, detectives arrested Md Nabi Hossain and Md Abul Kashem with a locally made gun in city's Double Mooring area. A case was filed accusing the two.

"Charge sheet was also submitted but the arms had not been placed before the court," said ACC's IO Raisuddin.

Later, on July 24, 2002, the court sentenced Nabi and Kashem to 10 years of imprisonment and directed the then Anti-Corruption Bureau to investigate where the arms was and why it was not placed before the court.

DAD Raisuddin, also the Investigation Officer, said during investigation they found that the two cops hid the evidence so that the accused can be freed.

A case with Kotwali Police Station in 2006 was filed, said ACC sources.
