Teenager killed by rival gang in Dhaka’s Kamrangirchar
A teenager was killed after a rival teen gang attacked him in Dhaka's Kamrangirchar area last evening.
The dead was identified as Apu (17), employee of a cosmetic shop at New Market.
The incident happened around 6:00pm at Jhawchar playground when Apu went there to mediate a dispute between two groups.
The dispute started over playing cricket early yesterday, police and victim's friends said.
Apu used to live in Jaulahati area. Yesterday morning, some teenagers from Jhawchar area beat up their junior Shamim. Apu and some others boys went to Jhawchar playground to settle the dispute, a friend of the deceased said.
Suddenly, some boys from the rival group attacked them with sticks. Apu was hit in the head and fell on the ground, he added.
With critical head injuries, he was first taken to a local hospital from where he was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Doctors at DMCH declared him dead.
Apu's uncle Habibur Rahamn said Apu used to live with his mother and sister after his father left them a couple of years ago.
Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost, said the body was kept at hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Police picked up two teenagers from the hospital for interrogation.
Kamrangirchar Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mostafizur Rahman said they are trying to arrest the killers.
