Teachers withdraw sit-in programme

Teachers of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) yesterday withdrew their sit-in programme after 33 days' demonstration demanding the vice-chancellor's resignation.

The decision came after education minister assured the leaders of "Mohan Muktijuddher Chetonay Udbuddho Sikkhak Brindo'' on Thursday of taking "proper steps".

According to the teachers, VC Prof Aminul Haque Bhuiyan on April 13 "misbehaved" with 19 teachers of physics, and environment and geography departments when they went to discuss with him the issue of proportional distribution of classrooms among all departments.

VC Prof Aminul Haque Bhuiyan said he already had apologised to the teachers for failing to give them enough time as his wife was sick.
