Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) today demolished over 300 illegal billboards and signboards in Gulshan-2, Banani-11 and Pragati Sarani areas.

The mobile courts of DNCC also realised Tk 66,700 through an auction of construction materials put on footpaths illegally at Pragati Sarani.

Besides, the mobile court realised Tk 44,000 as fine in nine cases.

DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam, speaking during the drive at Gulshan-2, said, "Those who will provide tax will get sweets, but those who don't will get fines," said.

The mayor also fed sweets to an official of Janata Bank Gulshan branch as they provided the fees to the DNCC to use their signboard.

Urging the city dwellers to follow the city corporation rules before setting up any signboard or billboard, Atiqul said first read the rules concerned properly and then put up a signboard meeting all the requirements.

He also called upon the city dwellers not to keep any construction materials on footpaths.

The mayor said they have started a drive to sell all the construction materials and goods kept on the footpaths illegally through auction. Besides, the drive against illegal billboards, signboards, banners and festoons will continue, he added.
