Strictly follow health guidelines: DSCC mayor directs cattle market leaseholders
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh today directed the lessees of all the 11 cattle markets, which are set to open tomorrow, to strictly follow health guidelines.
Addressing a fish fry releasing programme at Dhanmondi lake, the mayor said they will start mobile courts from tomorrow to monitor the activities of the cattle markets under the DSCC.
The mayor said they will be strict in ensuring health guidelines are followed and other conditions of taking the lease are met.
Taposh said they approved the 11 cattle markets at 11 points of the city considering the eight parliamentary areas in the DSCC. They also held a meeting with the lessees yesterday for its proper management.
"If any lessee breaches the condition of the lease, we will take stern action against them," he said.
He said many cattle markets had encroached into residential areas, which was totally unacceptable.
"We did not keep any scope to set up illegal cattle markets here and there; we will control it strictly," the mayor warned.
About the waterlogging problem, he said they hoped that the responsibility of solving it would be given to city corporations.
"We are planning a project incorporating ten ponds, canals and waterbodies and we will submit the project to the LGRD ministry shortly," mayor said.
