Shariatpur people not to join Faridpur division

Opposing the move to put Shariatpur district under Faridpur division, the people of Shariatpur demand the government keep them under Dhaka division.

Under the banner of Alokito Shariatpur Juba Sangha, they formed a human chain in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the city yesterday to press home their demand.

"People from all classes of Shariatpur are united and determined not to join Faridpur division deserting Dhaka division. We're under Dhaka division and we want to remain under it.  It's our only demand," said Dr Anwar Faraji Emon, convener of the Sangha, a platform of youths of the district, while addressing the function.

Adding that the distance between Shariatpur and Dhaka is only of 69 kilometres while it is 103 kilometres between Shariatpur and Faridpur, he said.

They will continue their programmes until the demand is met, said the Sangha.
