Separate bicycle lanes on streets of capital demanded
Bangladesh Cycle Lane Bastabayan Parishad (BCLBP) yesterday demanded separate lanes in the capital to help protecting the environment, and improving public health.
They formed a human chain at the premises of Fine Arts Faculty of Dhaka University, collected mass signatures and marched towards Dhaka South City Corporation office to submit a memorandum.
Mortality rate is increasing due to diabetes, cardiac ailments and blood pressure, they said, adding only a few minutes of cycling can reduce this rate. Also environment pollution is increasing alarmingly due to a rise of motor vehicles. Carbon emission from vehicles is also contributing to the global climate change.
BCLBP President Aminul Islam, Sammilita Sankritik Jote president Gulam Kuddus, Abul Kashem, and Sculptor Rasha were present.
