Schoolteacher gets life term for raping 5yr old student

A Dhaka court yesterday sentenced a schoolteacher of Mirpur to life term rigorous imprisonment for raping his five-year-old student on March 11, 2014.

The convict, Minhaj Uddin, a teacher of Holy Crescent School and College at West Shewrapara, was also fined Tk 3 lakh, in default of which he will suffer three more years in jail.

The court also ordered the authorities concerned 

to realise Tk 1 lakh of the fine and pay it to the victim family as compensation.

Minhaj lured the play-group student with a chocolate and raped her in a bathroom. Police arrested him after the father filed a case.

The verdict came when protesters and right activists are blaming the culture of impunity for the recurrence of sexual harassments, including sexual assault on women during Pahela Baishakh on Dhaka University campus and rape of a Garo woman on Thursday.
