SC stays bail order for two accused
The Supreme Court yesterday stayed for six weeks a High Court order that granted bail to two accused of a case filed over the seizure of liquid cocaine from a cargo container at Chittagong Port in June this year.
Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division of the SC Justice Md Imman Ali passed the order following a petition filed by the government challenging the HC order that granted bail to Mostafa Kamal and Atiqur Rahman on December 6 for six months.
Mostafa and Atiqur cannot get released from jail following the SC order, Additional Attorney General Murad Reza told The Daily Star.
On May 8, a container with 107 barrels of sunflower oil arrived at the port from Bolivia via Uruguay. On June 6, on a tip-off, Customs Intelligence officials sealed off the container and it was opened on June 8. Later, samples from each of the 107 barrels were sent for test in two labs in Dhaka, which found liquid cocaine in one of the barrels on June 27. Later on the day, a case was filed.
