SC receives report on Fakhrul's health

The Supreme Court yesterday received a report from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University on the health condition of BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, as it is set today to decide whether it will grant him bail in three vandalism and arson cases.

"The section concerned of my office has received a report from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University about Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. But, I don't know what it says," SC Registrar General Syed Aminul Islam told The Daily Star.

The SC on July 9 ordered the BSMMU authorities to form a five-member board to examine the health of the detained BNP acting secretary general and submit a "complete" medical report before it yesterday.

It also fixed today for passing an order on the government petitions against the High Court orders that had granted bail to Fakhrul on June 21 in the cases.

The SC ordered to form the fresh medical board, as Fakhrul's lawyers raised questions over the report submitted by a three-member medical board of the BSMMU on Wednesday. The report said Fakhrul's heart condition was stable.

Fakhrul's lawyer Khandaker Mahbub Hossain told the SC that the BNP leader had been suffering mainly from neurological problems, but the BSMMU medical board had prepared the report on his heart condition.
