SC extends status quo till HC delivers final judgment
The Supreme Court yesterday extended its April 30 order that issued a status quo on the possession of Jamuna Resort Ltd (JRL) till the High Court delivers a final decision in this regard.
The SC also asked the HC to dispose of its (HC's) rule in eight weeks.
The resort located on the south bank of the Jamuna river in Tangail, will remain under the possession of Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA) following the SC order, AKM Ehsanur Rahman, a lawyer for JRL, said.
The BBA has already took possession of the resort through cancelling a 30-year lease with Jamuna Resort Ltd, a consortium of Bangladeshi and foreign companies.
The SC passed the order following a government appeal against an HC order that on April 23 allowed JRL to run its lawful business at the resort for the next three months.
It also stayed a Dhaka court order that upheld the BBA notice that on April 1 cancelled a 30-year lease of the resort with JRL.
