Runaway teenager found dead in Dhanmondi

Police recovered the body of a teenage boy from the capital's Dhanmondi Lake yesterday, two days after he had left home being upset with his parents.

Sudipta Dutta Arjun, 17, was an HSC candidate of Bir Shreshtha Noor Mohammad Rifles Public School and College in Dhaka.

Morning walkers noticed the body floating in the lake around 6:30am. Police recovered and sent it to Dhaka Medical College morgue for an autopsy, police said.

Dr Prodip Biswas of the forensic medicine department of Dhaka Medical College said the body bore no injury marks and drowning was the cause of death.

Arjun might have committed suicide as he felt he was given less importance in the family, Ashim Kumar Dutta, his father, told The Daily Star, adding that Arjun did not know how to swim.

On Sunday night, Arjun stormed out of his East Rayerbazar residence in rage, over watching a cricket match on television. He was traceless since then, as he left his mobile phone. His mother filed a general diary the next day. Yesterday, they identified the body at Dhanmondi Police Station. Dhanmondi police Officer-in-Charge Noor-e-Azam said they suspected that Arjun killed himself by drowning.
