Road crashes kill 6, injure 40

Six people were killed and 40 others injured in road accidents in three districts yesterday and Sunday.

In Mymensingh, three people were killed and 20 others injured when a bus fell into a roadside ditch on Mymensingh-Haluaghat road at Bagunda in Tarakanda upazila yesterday.

Two of the deceased were Abu Raihan, 20, and Saju Miah, 26.

Following the incident, locals blocked the road disrupting vehicular movement for an hour, police said.

In Rangpur, Sirajul Islam, 45, of Arazi-Chalunia village was killed and five people were injured when a bus rammed an auto-rickshaw on Rangpur-Pirgachha road in Hauderpar-Chhaitantala area of Pirgachha upazila yesterday.

In Pirganj upazila, 10 people were injured when a bus plunged into a roadside ditch in Kalabagan area on Sunday.

Within one hour of the accident at the same place, Ashraful Islam, 22, of Dubrajpur village was killed when a truck fell on him while he was working in a roadside paddy field after it collided head-on with a microbus. The microbus was going to Sonali Bank's Pirganj branch carrying money under police protection. Five people were injured in the incident.

In Dinajpur, Swapan Kumar, 40, of Kadimnagar village was killed when a truck ran him over at Charmatha in Ghoraghat Sadar on Sunday night.
