The government yesterday requested a 25-member visiting Saudi delegation to remove barriers to hiring Bangladeshi professionals such as doctors, nurses and teachers and skilled and semi-skilled male workers in sectors including construction and agriculture.

The officials at the two-day 11th Bangladesh-Saudi Arabia Joint Commission meeting at Economic Relations Division, which ends today, also emphasised Saudi investors set up a technical training centre here and formation of a joint technical committee to resolve manpower recruitment problems.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Golam Moshi told The Daily Star that the Saudis already decided hiring the professionals. Led by Deputy Labour Minister Dr Ahmed Bin Fahad and arriving on Tuesday, the delegation will hold a meeting with expatriates' welfare and overseas employment ministry officials at Probashi Kalyan Bhaban today before leaving tomorrow.
