Reckless driving takes another student's life
One more college student was killed in a road accident in Chittagong city yesterday, five days after two others were killed.
Satya Priyo Das Topu, 25, a forth-year student of Chittagong City College, died when a mini truck which was running on the wrong side of CDA Avenue road crushed him at Sulakbahar.
Following the incident, enraged students of the college blockaded Probortok intersection for half an hour demanding the driver's arrest and compensation for the family.
Police detained the truck helper and seized the vehicle but the driver fled. On Saturday, Wahidul Hasan, 21, and Delwar Hossain Shamim, 21, 1st-year honours students, were killed when a truck hit them from behind after the driver lost control over the vehicle in City Gate area of Chittagong city.
Meanwhile in Gaibandha, two people were killed and three others injured when an auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a minibus at Matherhat on Gaibandha-Palashbari road yesterday. The deceased were Sumi Begum, 25, of Nandishaher village and Khadijatul Kobbra, eight-month-old daughter of Zillur Rahman, of Hasonerpara village.
In Bhola Sadar, Motaleb Hossain, 70, of Sonadogi village was killed when a microbus hit him while he was crossing Bhola-Elisa road in front of Elish Islamia Model College yesterday.
In Dinajpur, Akkas Ali, 17, of Kabirajpara village was killed and two people were injured when a tractor hit a motorcycle in Parbatipur upazila on Wednesday.
