Re-probe boy killing case against Nur

A Narayanganj court yesterday ordered detectives to reinvestigate a case filed against Nur Hossain and his five cohorts for killing a schoolboy 10 years ago.

 Additional Senior Judicial Magistrate Ashoke Kumar Dutta passed the order after the victim's father filed a no-confidence petition rejecting the investigation report submitted by police clearing Nur Hossain, also the prime accused in seven-murder, from the charges.

The victim's family alleged that Nur and his aides allegedly strangled a fifth-grader Tipu Sultan, calling him out of his Siddhirganj house and dumped the body in the Shitalakkhya River on September 26, 2006 after his father Kazi Akhtaruzzaman refused to pay Tk 5 lakh as extortion.

Shakhawat Hossain, the counsel for the family, said Akhtaruzzaman went to Siddhirganj Police Station to file a case but police refused to record it due to the influence of Nur. When Nur Hossain went into hiding in India, the victim's father filed the murder case against six people, including Nur, with a Narayanganj court in May, 2014, added the counsel.

Other accused are Rafiqul Islam Ratan, Aminul, Rostam Ali, Zakir and Sundar Ali Zaman.

But the counsel said Siddhirganj police submitted the final investigation report without talking to the complainant, Akhtaruzzaman.

After hearing his petition yesterday, the court ordered detectives to reinvestigate the case.

The victim's father told journalists yesterday that the mystery of his son's killing would be unveiled, if police grill Nur, taking him on remand.

Victim's mother Asia Begum broke down in tears on the court premises holding a photograph of her son and demanded justice.
