Rajuk drive against misuse of parking lots resumes in Dhanmondi

Only the Dhanmondi team of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) could resume its second spell of eviction drive yesterday in a bid to reclaim the basement car parking at buildings along Mirpur Road.

The Dhanmondi, Uttara and Gulshan teams, which were set to carry out a nine-day eviction drive, could not carry out the drive on January 26, 27, and 28 due to Rajuk's public hearings and employees' association elections, said sources.

The current drive is scheduled to continue till February 25. The Dhanmondi team partially dismantled illegal structures at the basement of seven buildings, penalised two building owners with a Tk 3 lakh fine and obtained undertaking from another two for occupying basement car parking for other purposes, said Md Nasir Uddin, Rajuk executive magistrate.

The drive started on the east side of the road towards Panthapath and was carried out at the buildings including Prince Plaza, and a building of Daffodil University, said Nasir.

Rajuk, following a housing ministry decision, started the drive on January 18.

The remaining two teams are waiting for fresh orders and allocation of police forces to resume the drive from February 7, said officials.
