Rab captures seven 'blackmailers'

Tk 32,200, US$33, and eight cellphones from them in the capital's Kafrul on Tuesday.

The detainees are Abdul Maleq, his wife Rasheda Begum, Shirin Aktar, Khairul Alam, Faruq Hossain, Shahidul Islam and Ariful Islam.

From Maleq's house, Rab also rescued expatriate Ziaul Haque, who lives in the Maldives, said Assistant Superintendent of Police Mujahidul Islam of Rab-4.

The arrestees admitted that Shirin developed a relationship with Ziaul a couple of months ago over the phone.

Ziaul went to the house on her invitation. Later, the other six took "compromising" photos of him with Shirin, Mujahidul said. Afterwards, they demanded Tk 5 lakh threatening him to publish the photos on the internet otherwise, he added.
