Man killed in ‘shootout’ in Dhaka

A man was killed in an alleged "shootout" with police in the city's Bosila area earlier today.

The identity of the deceased, aged around 35, could not be known yet.

The shootout took place around 3:00am when a team from Mohammadpur Police Station went to Bosila Garden City area to apprehend a criminal, police said.

After "sensing the presence" of the law enforcers, some criminals opened fire at police who retaliated in self-defence, resulting in a "shootout", sub-inspector Sajedul Haque of the police station mentioned in a report prepared on the incident. 

The man sustained bullets during the exchange and he was rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead, he added.

The body was later sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
