Star Online Report

Amid the ongoing demonstrations over road safety, a 35-year-old man was run over by a lorry of a private courier service in Dhaka’s Paltan area tonight.

The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately, Mahmudul Haque, officer-in-charge of Paltan Police Station told The Daily Star.

According to him, the man was crossing a road near Paltan intersection around 9:15pm when a speeding lorry of ‘Korotoa Courier Service’ hit him, leaving him dead on the spot, he said.

Police detained the driver and seized the vehicle immediately after the incident, he added.

The accident took place just a day after a university student was run over by an unruly bus of ‘Suprabhat Paribahan’ which was reportedly on a mad race yesterday. The death of Abrar resonated by his peers has also led to a flare of protests in Dhaka.
